About

Our Story

In June 2017, Ashley Brooks and Sonja Overhiser launched Indy Women in Food with the goal of connecting women working in food in Indianapolis, promoting food-related initiatives in Indy, and helping to host events and gatherings spearheaded by women.

With over 280 women food entrepreneur members and years of event programming under our belt, Indy Women in Food is thriving. We exist to nurture collaboration and empower women in the Indianapolis food scene, including chefs, restaurant owners, writers, bloggers, photographers, and community organizers. 

Our Mission

Through Indy Women in Food, we hope to network, strengthen relationships, and make a positive impact on our community. Our mission is four-fold:

  1. Connect women entrepreneurs in Indianapolis to facilitate collaboration, community, and thriving businesses

  2. Promote women run and led food-related businesses in Indy

  3. Equip & educate women food entrepreneurs by offering programming (networking and training opportunities)

  4. Produce events that lead the public conversation on racial and gender equity in food and food justice (the right of all people to nutritious, fresh food).

For us, it’s about food. Some of us write about it or or photograph it. Some of us use it as a tool for education; a catalyst for growth and change and community improvement. Some of us use it to tell stories, and to create new ones. Maybe we all do a little bit of everything ... a dash of this, a pinch of that. We dream with it. We love with it. Food occupies a uniquely special space in our lives, and is a connector of so many people, places and things.

Here at Indy Women in Food, we want to support and celebrate the leading ladies who are calling the shots, writing the scripts and stealing the show on the Indianapolis food stage, and beyond. We’re your biggest fans! And we can’t wait to get to know you.
